花屋さんでもよく見かける身近な花ですね。実に様々な色があり、明るい気分にさせてくれます。品種改良や海外からの輸入により、ほぼ年中手に入ります。安価で水持ちもいいので、いけばなでも重宝します。

葉が根元の低い部分に生えるため、切花では花だけが売られています。そのままでも使いますが、生花（しょうか）という伝統的な様式にいける際には葉も必要になります。切花ではなく、鉢植えのものを購入することになります。

The leaves are short and grow near the bottom of the plant, so only the flowers are usually sold at flower shops. If you want to use it for shōka, a traditional style of ikebana, you also need the leaves. In that case, you’ll need to buy a potted plant instead of cut flowers.
