辛夷

「こぶし」と読みます。かなり大きな木で、観賞用によく植えられているため見かける機会も多いのではないでしょうか。葉が出るよりも早く開花するため、真白な花が一面に咲き満ちて、青い空によく映えます。

同じもくれん科の白木蓮とよく似ていますが、辛夷より白木蓮の方が花が大きく、また白木蓮の花は全て上向きに咲くのに対して拳の花は様々な向きに咲きます。

It’s called “Kobushi,” a relatively large tree often planted as an ornamental tree, so you may come across it frequently. Since it blooms before its leaves come out, its pure white flowers blanket the branches, creating a beautiful contrast against the blue sky.

Kobushi is similar to the white magnolia, as both belong to the Magnoliaceae family. However, white magnolia flowers are larger and face upward, whereas Kobushi flowers are smaller and bloom in various directions.
